Newcastle United have won the FA Cup six times to date, 1910, 1924, 1932, 1950, 1951 and 1955.
Prior to 1863 football had many varied rules and regulations depending upon the jurisdiction of the organisation under whom it was played. However in 1863, the newly founded Football Association (the FA) unified the rules into ‘the Laws of the Game of Association Football’. Then, on 20 July 1871, the FA Secretary C. W. Alcock (in the offices of The Sportsman newspaper), proposed to the FA committee "it is desirable that a Challenge Cup should be established in connection with the Association for which all clubs belonging to the Association should be invited to compete" – and the FA cup was born!
The inaugural FA Cup was won by Wanderers Football Club who defeated the Royal Engineers Association Football Club in the final, on 16 March 1872.
